The miniMODUL-196XX is a Single Board Computer in credit-card (85 x 55 mm) dimensions. It accommodates various derivatives of Intel's MCS* 196 microcontrollers. The board's small footprint allows it to be easily embedded as a "big chip" in user hardware lay-outs.
When fitted with the 80C196MC, the miniMODUL-196XX features 53 I/O lines, a Waveform Generator (WFG) and additional peripherals optimized for three-phase AC industrial motor control and power inverter applications. When mounted with the 80C196NP or the 80C196NU, the miniMODUL-196XX offers six Chip-Select signals, three PWMs and a demultiplexed bus. The NP derivative also offers a 1 MB linear address range and runs at 25 MHz. The NU-based board has a clock speed of 40 MHz.
The miniMODUL-196XX supports the controller functions included on the standard miniMODUL-196: the duplex-capable integrated serial port and Event Processing Array (EPA), A/D converter, 4-bit instruction queue, Watchdog Timer, supplemental Slave-Program-Counter, PWM and IDLE and POWER-DOWN modes. All controller signals and ports are extended from the controller to the pin rows aligning three edges of the board.
The standard memory configuration of the miniMODUL-196XX features 256 KB SRAM and 256 KB Flash. Communication is enabled by two RS-232 transceivers (one of which is configurable as RS-485), with an additional serial interface available via UART. The board also features two 16-bit Counters/Timers, operates within a standard industrial temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees C (with an extended range from -40 to 85 degrees C) and typically requires a low 5 V/ca 125 mA power source. The miniMODUL-196XX can be easily programmed with standard software development tools supporting the MCS x96. With the help of the included PHYTEC's Flash utilities firmware, user code (in Intel hex-file format) is easily downloaded to the Flash via the RS-232 connection to a host PC.
